With Traditional 1-1 PT

The Problems with Traditional Personal Training

For years 1-1 PT has been the gold standard

And I whole heartedly agree with this!

I used to see the very best results

In the shortest time period

With my face to face clients

Not my online clients

So you'd train on the gym floor with me

3 - 4 times a week

And we'd guide you through everything

Sounds familiar right?

Gets results,

But it does come with its downfalls:

Its expensive!

Most personal trainers charge

$75-150 per session

(I used to charge $80 - $120 depending)

And thats just for one workout

Then, train with me 3 times a week every week

And you're looking at a monthly bill around

$1200 before tax!

Alienating 99.9% of the population

Who could really benefit from PT

Next up,

Personal training can be slightly limiting

You only get coached when you're at the gym

That means when you leave the gym

And in between sessions, you're on your own!

No ongoing accountability

No real support

Which can lead to a yo-yo'in affect

And finally

Us "PT's" can be quite inflexible

I would be very strict about missing sessions

And still charging for them!

Plus, i was alway very busy

So I had little,

To no flexibility in my timetable

To change clients sessions around

The result?

Many people cant access Personal Training

And quite a few quit

Not because they dont want results

But because it becomes too expensive

Or becomes too limiting

On the other end of the spectrum,

But let's be honest!

Online coaching has some major flaws too!

And i know,

I started my online PT business way before Covid

Before the popularity of online PT

And these issues still persist today!

Issue #1 there is no Real accountability.

Without in person check ins

Its easy to fall off track

Sure,

Your coach might send you a check in message

But thats not the same as having someone there 1-1

Making sure you are staying consistent.

People always talk about motivation

And it comes in many different shapes and sizes

One type of motivation you cant miss

Is knowing in 4 weeks

You are going to see your coach face to face

And they are going to ask how your plan has gone

Knowing the type of results you should have got

This will keep you on track

(or at least help)

You dont get this with online.

Issue #2 is the lack of hands on guidance.

The reason why a lot of PT's are so young on online

Is because they lack the knowledge

And experience of the gym floor

Being able to que properly and see movements patterns

And being able to correct them

With online personal training,

These PT's dont have to do this.

Because they cant!

And so you dont get the guidance you need.

Watching a YouTube video

Or reading instruction on their app

Is not the same as real-time coaching.

Without a trainer correcting your form in person

You are risking making mistakes

That can slow your progress down.

And finally #3

Probably the worst one

The one we all know happens,

But somehow believe

"Not My Coach"

The one size fits all plans

Every personal trainer goes online

So they can serve more clients

(make more money)

and do less work

They write 1-5 programs

And every clients does them.

Now in their defence

The basics dont ever change

I always used to say this

Back when i was a PE teacher

Teaching basketball

Year on year out, never changes!

And the same goes here.
